Audio Out of Sync on IPTV: How to Fix Lip-Sync Problems

Few things are more annoying than voices arriving a moment after the lips move. Audio delay can come from the stream, the player, your TV or your soundbar. Here's how to track it down.

Is it every channel or just one?

  • One channel: the delay may be in the source stream. Report it and use the player's audio offset meanwhile.
  • Every channel: it's your setup—keep reading.

Fix 1: Use the player's audio delay setting

Many players let you shift audio by milliseconds during playback. In VLC it's under Audio → Audio track synchronization (or the J/K keys on desktop). Other apps have an "Audio delay" option in the playback menu.

Fix 2: Check your soundbar or receiver

Soundbars and AV receivers process sound, which can add delay. Look for AV sync, Lip sync or Audio delay in their settings.

Fix 3: TV sound settings

  • Try switching Digital audio output between "Auto", "PCM" and "Passthrough".
  • Turn off sound "enhancement" modes and test again.
  • If your TV has an audio delay option, adjust it.

Fix 4: Turn off heavy picture processing

Motion smoothing and noise reduction add video delay, which makes audio seem early. Try "Game" or "Filmmaker" mode, or turn off motion smoothing.

Fix 5: Match frame rate

On Nvidia Shield, Apple TV and Google TV devices, enabling match frame rate can prevent stutter and sync drift. See Shield settings.

Fix 6: Switch player engine

Some apps offer two players. One may handle a stream's audio better. See players compared.

Bluetooth headphones

Bluetooth adds noticeable delay. Use the player's audio delay setting or wired headphones for live sports.

Frequently asked questions

Why is audio fine on my phone but delayed on my TV?

Your TV, soundbar or receiver is adding processing delay. Check their AV sync settings.

Will restarting fix it?

Sometimes—sync can drift after long playback. Restarting the channel or app often resets it.

Can the provider fix lip-sync?

If one channel is consistently out of sync on all devices, report it so the stream can be checked.
