When you subscribe to IPTV, you'll usually get an Xtream Codes login: a server URL, a username and a password. It's the most common way IPTV players connect to a service today.
The three parts
| Field | Example | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Server URL | http://server.example:8080 | Include http:// and the port |
| Username | JohnD2026 | Case-sensitive |
| Password | x7Kp92 | Case-sensitive |
"Xtream Codes" was originally the name of a server software; today the term simply refers to this login format (sometimes called "Xtream API").
Xtream vs M3U
- Faster: the app asks the server for exactly what it needs instead of downloading one huge file.
- Organized: live TV, movies and series appear in separate sections with posters.
- Guide included: EPG usually loads automatically.
- Shorter to type: much easier with a TV remote than a long M3U link.

Apps that support Xtream
TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, OTT Navigator, XCIPTV, Sparkle TV, APTV, IPTVX, UHF and most others. Exceptions: VLC and Kodi's Simple Client use M3U. See all players.
Common mistakes
- Missing
