Google TV devices are some of the easiest to use for IPTV because they have the full Google Play Store. That means popular players like TiviMate install in seconds, with automatic updates. This guide covers the Google TV Streamer, the older Chromecast with Google TV, and TVs with Google TV built in (Sony, TCL, Hisense and others).

Which Google TV device do you have?

  • Google TV Streamer – the current box from Google, with a built-in Ethernet port.
  • Chromecast with Google TV (4K or HD) – the older dongle. Still works well; add a USB-C hub with Ethernet if you get buffering.
  • Google TV smart TVs – Sony, TCL, Hisense and other models running Google TV. See Sony, TCL and Hisense.

Step 1: Install a player app

  1. From the home screen, go to Search and type the app name, or open the Apps tab.
  2. Install one of: TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, OTT Navigator or Sparkle TV.

Tip: you can also install apps from Google Play on your phone and send them to your TV—choose your Google TV device in the "Install on more devices" option.

Step 2: Add your subscription

Open the player and choose Xtream Codes login (recommended) or M3U. Enter the details from our WhatsApp message. Use the Google TV app on your phone as a keyboard to avoid typing with the remote.

Step 3: Free up storage

The Chromecast with Google TV has only about 8 GB of storage, and it fills up fast. Every few weeks:

  • Go to Settings → System → Storage and clear cache for large apps.
  • Uninstall apps you never use.
  • Restart the device: Settings → System → Restart.

Step 4: Best settings

  • Display & Sound → Advanced display settings: enable match content frame rate where available.
  • Network: Ethernet beats Wi-Fi every time—see Wi-Fi vs Ethernet.
  • Turn off "Ambient mode" extras if the device feels slow.

Frequently asked questions

Can I cast IPTV from my phone to a Chromecast?

Some player apps support casting, but it's more reliable to install the player directly on the Google TV device.

Is Google TV better than Firestick for IPTV?

Both work well. Google TV has the official Play Store, which makes installing Android TV players like TiviMate simpler.

My Chromecast keeps buffering. Why?

Usually Wi-Fi or low storage. Clear app caches, restart, and try an Ethernet adapter. See our buffering fixes.
