Macs are excellent IPTV screens: sharp displays, good speakers, and plenty of power. Whether you have a MacBook, iMac or Mac mini, here's how to get your IPTV subscription running on macOS.
Option 1: VLC (free, fastest test)
- Download VLC from the official VideoLAN website.
- Open VLC → File → Open Network…
- Paste your M3U link and click Open.
- Use Cmd+L (Window → Playlist) to browse channels.
VLC has no TV guide, so it's best for testing. See the VLC IPTV guide.
Option 2: Mac App Store IPTV players
Several Apple-focused IPTV players have Mac versions, including IPTVX and UHF – Love your IPTV. On Apple-silicon Macs (M1 and later), some iPad apps can also be installed from the Mac App Store. These apps give you:
- Xtream Codes and M3U login
- A full TV guide (EPG)
- Movies and series with posters
- Sync with your iPhone, iPad or Apple TV in some apps
Search the Mac App Store for the app name, check the developer, and read what the free version includes before paying for upgrades.
Option 3: Kodi for macOS
Kodi works on macOS and turns your Mac into a full media center with a TV guide. It takes a bit longer to configure—follow our Kodi IPTV guide.
Watching on your TV from a Mac
- HDMI: connect your Mac to the TV with an HDMI cable or USB-C adapter.
- AirPlay: AirPlay the screen to an Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible TV.
- For a permanent setup, an Apple TV 4K is better—see IPTV apps for Apple TV.
Tips
- Plug in power while streaming for long periods so macOS doesn't throttle performance.
- Use Ethernet (via adapter) on MacBooks if Wi-Fi is weak.
- Turn on "Prevent automatic sleeping" in Battery/Energy settings during long games.
