Recording Live TV with IPTV (Where Supported)

By the IPTV Prime US team · Updated October 14, 2026

Cable DVRs made recording easy. With IPTV, recording is possible in several apps, but it depends on your player, your device and what your provider allows.

Recording vs catch-up

If you only want to watch yesterday's show, catch-up may be simpler.

Apps that can record

  • TiviMate Premium – scheduled and instant recordings. Guide.
  • OTT Navigator – recording features (some may require premium). Guide.
  • Some Apple apps – features vary; check the app.

Storage you'll need

Roughly 1–3 GB per hour of HD. Fire TV Sticks have little storage, so:

  • Nvidia Shield Pro: USB drive—ideal. See Shield guide.
  • Android TV boxes with USB: external drive.
  • Network storage: some apps can record to a network folder.

How to schedule a recording (TiviMate example)

  1. Open the TV guide and find the program.
  2. Press and hold OK → Record (or schedule recording).
  3. Set the recording folder in Settings → Recording.

Limits to know

  • Recording usually uses a connection while it records.
  • Not every channel or provider allows recording.
  • The device must be on (not unplugged) at recording time.
